Happy Summer! We’re halfway through 2021 already, and what a year it’s been so far. The world of AR continues to thrive, with new and exciting creations arising every month, and we’re delighted to share the very best of what June had to offer.
This month was a big one in Zappar history - we hosted our own virtual Summit, which saw some very exciting announcements, including brand new SDKs and our partnership with eCommerce platform AiBUY. But enough about us (for now). Let’s dive into what the Creative Studio and our Zapworks users created this month:
AR for Retail: Kings Hawaiian - Guy Fieri Flavortown experience
Objective: To create customer loyalty and bring more footfall into stores
Delivery method: Custom WebAR
Back in February of this year, Kings Hawaiian announced their partnership with the king of Flavortown himself, Guy Fieri. The Zappar Creative Studio has teamed up with Kings Hawaiian to deliver an AR experience to go along with the partnership.
This Summer, Kings Hawaiian are running a sweepstakes event powered by augmented reality. By scanning the codes on displays throughout King’s Hawaiian delis and bakeries, customers are transported to a virtual Flavortown, where they can play mini-games, snap pictures with Guy, and earn points for a chance to win prizes.
AR for Retail: Phantom - Mytheresa x Christian Louboutin virtual shoe edit
Objective: Enhance the online buying experience and promote Christian Louboutin's new shoe line
Delivery method: Custom WebAR
Immersive agency Phantom used our Zapworks suite to design an AR experience for luxury fashion outlet Mytheresa. In partnership with Christian Louboutin, this experience lets customers explore the new collection of shoes in 3D. Users can place the shoes in the real world, and see every angle of them, without ever having to leave home.
AR for Education: Byte x Middlesex University - Virtual campus tour
Objective: Give prospective students more information about the university
Delivery method: Custom WebAR
Marketing technology agency Byte created this WebAR experience for prospective students to learn more about Middlesex University.
By scanning the code, the experience will open directly in the browser. Users can then place different campus rooms into their real-world environment, and explore areas of the campus like the Student Union, with pop-up information to go along with it. This way, hopeful students who can’t make the trip in-person can still get a feel for the English University ahead of time.
Zappar News: The AR Pioneers Summit
You might’ve heard us shouting about our inaugural AR Pioneers Summit over the last month. We’re incredibly proud that the 2-day event was such a success, with 2,000+ attendees and a wealth of guest speakers from all corners of the XR industry. A huge thank you to everyone who made it so great!
If you didn’t make it, never fear! You can watch the sessions on-demand on the Zappar website.
AR for Events: LEGOLAND Windsor Resort - LEGO Mythica AR Portals
In May’s Month in AR blog, we announced that a new AR-powered park section would be opening at LEGOLAND Windsor Resort. We’re incredibly proud to announce that LEGOLAND Mythica is now open to the public, and the response has been incredible.
