In 2024 LEGOLAND Windsor and LEGOLAND Germany unveiled Woodland Lodge and Adventure Lodge – brand new resort areas for guests to spend the night surrounded by nature.
Our brief was divided into 2 experiences:
1 - Create an AR experience that would entertain families staying at the lodges, while staying true to the nature-theme.
2 - Create a video sequence to play on a giant screen present in the entertainment area of Windsor's Woodland Lodge, acting as a window into a LEGO Woodland scene with engaging animated content.
Knowing families would likely discover the experience after a long day at the park, we wanted to offer families more than just passive screen time. Our solution? An interactive LEGO nature adventure, guided by LEGO Rangers.
Guests explored their rooms to discover and photograph digital LEGO flora and fauna, carefully placed to feel like part of the space. Animals scurried under desks, hopped onto beds, and perched on wardrobes. Completing the hunt unlocked a final reward: the chance to create a custom virtual LEGO Woodland scene.
The experience turned each room into a playful, educational scavenger hunt—bringing the magic of nature and LEGO to life.
For the video part of the brief we wanted to create more than just a video—we wanted a living, breathing LEGO woodland sequence that would captivate families in the entertainment area of Windsor's Woodland Lodge.
Using Unreal Engine, we built a real-time animated scene filled with LEGO trees, animals, and playful surprises.
The giant 4m x 3m screen acted as a digital window into this world, shifting from sunrise to sunset and even changing with the seasons. Birds fluttered, otters swam, squirrels foraged, and LEGO Rangers explored—ensuring the scene always felt alive.
Because it ran in real-time, we could even update it on the fly, adding showtimes or adjusting content to keep the magic seamless.
